Odorization packages are used to inject aromatic agents into gases. The most common application is the injection of ethanethiol (ethyl mercaptan) to odorize LPG, making any potential gas leakage easily detectable.
Ethanethiol is added to butane and propane to ensure that these normally odorless fuels—posing risks of fire, explosion, and asphyxiation—can be readily detected by smell.
These packages are widely utilized in gas pressure reduction stations, gas transmission and distribution networks, gas refineries, and petrochemical plants. They are typically designed and manufactured for an operating pressure range of approximately 5 to 100 bar.
The pumps used in these packages are high-precision metering pumps with adjustable flow rates in the approximate range of 0.001 to 0.05 m³/h, ensuring accurate and uniform odorant injection.
